Our Story

South Africa faces a unique health landscape — a dual public-private healthcare system, high rates of HIV, TB, diabetes, and hypertension, combined with one of the world’s most diverse populations. Yet most health portals online are built for American or British audiences.

HealthLab was born out of frustration with that gap. Our founders, a mix of health journalists, doctors, and technologists, set out to build the resource they wished existed when they were searching for health answers in SA.

Today, we publish new expert-led content weekly, maintain a growing directory of vetted professionals, and offer free digital health tools calibrated for South African contexts.

Our Values

Medically Verified

Every article is reviewed or authored by registered professionals before publication.

Locally Relevant

Content is tailored for South African realities — our healthcare system, common conditions, local foods, and SA costs.

Community First

We build for real South Africans, from Limpopo townships to Cape Town suburbs, in plain and accessible language.

Free to Access

Quality health information should not be a luxury. Core content and tools are always free on HealthLab.
